Beach Volleyball Makes Inaugural Trip to California

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF beach volleyball follows up its first-ever trip to Arizona with another first when it heads to Bakersfield, Calif., for matches against CSU Bakersfield and Westcliff Tuesday, March 19.

The UNF beach program has only played two matches against schools in California. The Ospreys faced off against USC in 2013 and Pepperdine in 2012.

Last Time Out
TUCSON, Ariz. - UNF took care of Louisiana-Monroe, 4-1, in the first match of the day before falling by the same score to host No. 15 Arizona on its final day in Tucson, Arizona, Saturday, March 16.

Receiving Votes

The Ospreys have received votes for three consecutives weeks in the AVCA Coaches Poll. UNF also received votes in the March 4 and 11 DiG Magazine Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll.

Getting Familiar

Senior Nicole Debolt and Junior Madilyn McCarty are 3-1 in their past four matches with wins over Arizona State (21-13, 21-17), New Mexico (21-13, 21-18), and UL-Monroe (21-16. 21-16). The pair is second on the team in wins with seven.
Carolyn Cain and Blaire Register are 5-1 this season and 3-1 in their past four matches as they also were able to take down Arizona State, New Mexico, and UL-Monroe. The pair has the highest win percentage on the team (83.3%).
Senior Chaney Howard became UNF's all-time wins leader after earning her 62nd victory in a 5-0 sweep of Eckerd March 8. Howard earned it alongside Antonia Harrison, surpassing Courtney Miller's previously-held record of 61.

A Tough Schedule

The AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Preseason Poll was announced Monday, Feb. 11, and included on that list of teams at least receiving votes are 12 teams set to play North Florida this upcoming season.
UNF will play matches against three opponents that are at least receiving votes in the two prominent national polls. The Ospreys played two top 20 teams in Arizona last week, No. 17/16 Grand Canyon and No. 15/15 Arizona.

CSU Bakersfield

The Roadrunners are 6-3 on the season after they split their Saturday, March 16 matches. CSU Bakersfield came out victorious against Marymount California, 4-1, while losing a close match to CSUN, 3-2.
CSU started off winning the first four games of the season before losing to Long Beach State and Pepperdine, who are both ranked in the top ten nationally.
Bakersfield is 5-1 at home this season.

Westcliff

The Warriors are 2-2 with wins over Arizona Christian (4-1) and Rio Hondo College (4-1). Westcliff also had tough loses against Cypress College (1-4) and LBCC (2-3).
Westcliff is 2-2 on the road this season.
