Last Time Out
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Nick Marchese and Eddie Miller combined to spin one-run baseball and some timely hitting provided enough offense as the Ospreys (11-7) upended Bethune-Cookman, 3-1, Tuesday, March 12, from Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Doing it With the Strikeout
The Ospreys' had a remarkable night on the mound against Florida State. The first 11 Seminoles retired were all put down by strikeout. Seven UNF pitchers combined to fan 17, with six coming from senior Trace Norkus in just 2.0 innings of work. The 17 K's broke a UNF - Division I record set March 4, 2016 against Pennsylvania. The UNF arms were bolstered by current minor leaguer, Bryan Baker, and his 11 strikeouts as they finished the night with 16.
The Southpaw
Redshirt-junior Eddie Miller hasn't allowed a run through 15.1 innings of work to start the season. In seven appearances the Ocala, Fla., native has garnered four saves, allowing only five hits and three walks while striking out 18. Miller didn't permit an earned run in his loss at Florida State. He fanned four for the third time this season en route to a 3.0-inning save against Bethune-Cookman. Miller only alowed one base runner, spinning 35 pitches in a dazzling outing out of the pen.
Like it Late
UNF is 9-1 when leading after six innings and 10-0 when leading after eight frames. Scoring early has been a good omen for the Ospreys as well. UNF is 5-2 when leading after the first.
The Long Save
UNF pitchers have picked up nine saves across their 11 wins. Four different players have tallied a save, with Eddie Miller leading the group with four. Trace Norkus has three to his name while, Ryan Jean and Hunter Bowling have one apiece. All four have garnered at least one three-inning save.
