11/2/2019 10:48:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte scored late in the second half and North Florida men's soccer answered less than a minute later, however the 18th-ranked 49ers capitalized on a corner kick to take the match 2-1 on a chilly evening at Transamerica Field Saturday.
GOALS
80' | Hunter Omli (Unassisted)
81' | Miguel DeLeon, Jr. (Landen Haig)
86' | Patrick Hogan (Luke Johnson)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a defensive battle with neither team commanding consistent possession.
- North Florida had its lone shot on goal in the opening frame from freshman Robbie Soronellas, but it was picked up by the Charlotte keeper.
- Late in the first half, the 49ers had their best chance as they tried to slip the ball to the lower corner, although Padraic Gilley was there with the stop.
- In the opening minutes of the second, Charlotte had back-to-back chances blocked with one coming from Zane Bubb and the other Torian Went.
- Charlotte got on the board in the 80th minute after a failed clear allowed Hunter Omli to get a boot on it and send it to the left side of the net.
- The hosts didn't hold the lead long as less than a minute later as the Ospreys poured on the pressure and a pass from Landen Haig was deflected by the goalie. It found the feet of Miguel DeLeon, Jr. who put the ball right on target to knot the score.
- In the 86th minute, Charlotte scored the game-winner on a header from Patrick Hogan thanks to a well placed corner from Luke Johnson for the 2-1 win.

QUICK KICKS

FROM THE MOUTH OF MARINATOS
"For us we were able to use these last two games as a measuring stick and mentally get ready for the conference tournament. We went on the road and played a top-25 team and we went toe-to-toe with them. I loved our response after we gave up the first goal. We came right back and didn't stop. Ultimately they pinched on in late. We had our chances and moments where we caused them problems. We went out on the road and came out with no fear. We proved we can play with any one in the country. Now we will head back to Jacksonville and get ready to face Liberty." - head coach Derek Marinatos
