ATLANTA -- Former North Florida track standout Eden Meyer has signed a professional contract to compete for the Atlanta Track Club Elite Team. She will compete in the marathon and road races for ATC thru 2020.Â
"I am excited to be a part of the Atlanta Track Club because it provides me the opportunity to pursue my distance running goals, while sharing my passion for running with the Atlanta community," said Meyer. "I am so grateful for this opportunity to train here and can't wait to represent ATC and Running City USA."
Meyer, a native of Jacksonville, recently completed one of the most decorated running careers in UNF program history. She was a 15-time All-ASUN honoree and claimed ASUN event titles six times in track along with earning back-to-back ASUN cross country titles. Meyer holds a trio of program records including the Indoor 5,000m (16:23), Outdoor 5,000m (16:29) and Outdoor 10,000m (33:43).
During her Osprey career, Meyer qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary three times and advanced to the NCAA Finals twice in the 10,000m. She garnered 2nd-team All-American honors following a 15th place finish in the finals of the 10k in 2017. Meyer also became the first Division I UNF runner to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships during her senior campaign.
A well-rounded performer, Meyer also excelled in the classroom where she collected six ASUNÂ Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in track and cross country along with three UNF Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards and a pair of UNF Female Athlete of the Year recognitions. In addition, Meyer was selected by the ASUNÂ as the 2018 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is one of 153 nominees nationwide under consideration for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Along with signing Meyer to a deal, the Atlanta Track Club also announced the additions of American record holder, U.S. Champion and eight-time NCAA champion triple and long jumper Keturah Orji, Brigham Young University standout Abraham Alvarado and Monmouth graduate Dylan Capwell. Ellie Abrahamson, who graduated from Wake Forest University in 2017, joins Atlanta Track Club's distance squad from the world of professional triathlons.
"Eden has done well in college but I think her best years are ahead of her," said UNF head track coach Jeff Pigg. "She will have excellent resources and I'm thankful that the Atlanta Track Club is giving her this opportunity. This long term commitment will allow her time to prepare for the marathon without trying to force too much into a single year. It will be exciting to see her run the roads and longer distances."
