Claudia Jalon Smashes School Record in Indoor Mile

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- North Florida senior distance runner Claudia Jalon bettered her own UNF Indoor school record on Saturday running a time of 4:39 in the Camel City Elite Mile competition at the JDL Fast Track facility.
Jalon, a native of Spain, originally broke the school record earlier this year following a run of 4:47 at the Samford Open. She trimmed eight seconds off her time and finished sixth racing in a field that included several professional runners. The time currently ranks as the eighth fastest of the season in the NCAA.
"Claudia ran a very smart race," said UNF head coach Jeff Pigg. "The race was set-up for professionals with over $10,000 in prize money, so the tension was high. The pacers took it out fast, but Claudia remained patient and just ran her race. She ran even splits and finished strong, passing six runners over the last half of the race. She ran well and there is more where that came from."
Jalon now turns her attention to the ASUN Indoor Championship, set for Feb. 16-17 in Lynchburg, Va.
