Women's Tennis Picks Up Two Wins On Saturday

JACKSONVILLE -Â North Florida closed out the opening weekend with a pair of victories as it defeated Middle Tennessee 4-2 before taking down Florida A&M 7-0.Â
"It was good to get two more wins today," said head coach Mariana Cobra. "It is hard to play three matches in a short amount of time, but we came out strong against Middle Tennessee and made the adjustments we needed to make and picked up a good win. In the afternoon, we just kept working and it paid off. It feels good to have some matches under our belt and I look forward to seeing how we progress."
UNF vs. MTSU
The Ospreys opened with the doubles point after junior Rafaela Gomez and senior Luise Intert clinched it with a 7-5 comeback win in the No. 2 position. Sophomore Lucia Montaño and Florencia Rossi grabbed a 7-5 victory in the No. 3 spot to help UNF get the 1-0 lead.
In singles, following a pair Blue Raider wins, the Ospreys got back in the win column as freshman Valentina Mariotto picked up a three-set win in the No. 2 spot with a 0-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory. Gomez won 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot before Montaño clinched the match at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-1 win.
UNF vs. FAMU
The Ospreys opened with the doubles points after Rossi and Montano clinched the match with a 6-1 win in the No. 2 position. Eva Nyikos and Mariotto also grabbed a 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot to help UNF get the 1-0 lead.
The Ospreys continued their dominance as all five players in singles picked up victories, with the match being clinched by Rossi's 6-2, 6-0 performance in the No. 4 position.
