Women's Tennis Picks Up Win Against New Orleans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis kicked off the spring season with a 6-1 win against New Orleans on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
"Our first match of the season is in the books," said head coach Mariana Cobra. "We knew that there would be some nerves, but we channeled them and stuck to our game play. We are looking forward to continuing to get better tomorrow."
The Ospreys opened with the doubles point after junior Rafaela Gomez and senior Luise Intert clinched with a 6-4 win in the No. 2 position. Sophomore Lucia Montaño and Florencia Rossi grabbed a victory in the No. 3 spot to help UNF get the 1-0 lead.
In singles, Rossi also earned a win as her opponent retired due to injury for an early 2-0 lead. Gomez then put up a victory against Trang Dao in the No. 1 spot with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Freshman Eva Nyikos then clinched the match in the No. 3 position with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win.
With the match in hand, North Florida continued its winning ways in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
North Florida has a quick turnaround as it takes on Middle Tennessee State and Florida A&M on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
