TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis kicked off its spring schedule at the Florida State Invitational with a 4-0 win against Florida A&M before dropping a 4-2 decision to Furman in the second round.

UNF began with singles against the Rattlers and then turned around and played doubles against Furman to kick things off. UNF grabbed the doubles point against the Paladins, but Furman grabbed four singles points to take the match.

Freshman Joe Ellis had a good day in singles as he picked up wins in both matches. He shut out Rodney Sturgis of Florida A&M before moving to the No. 5 spot and grabbing a 6-4, 7-5 victory.

After UNF grabbed the doubles point, Furman evened the score with a win in the No. 6 spot. Ellis then gave UNF back the lead with his win at the No. 5 position. The Paladins proceeded to take victories in No. 1 and No. 3 making senior Lasse Muscheites' match a must-win. Muscheites fought hard against Furman, but lost a three-set battle to give the Paladins the win.

North Florida now takes on the winner of the Georgia State/Florida State match up to play for third place at 2:30 p.m.
