The Short Story: The North Florida baseball team won its sixth consecutive game and earn the weekend sweep over Penn with a 7-3 victory on Sunday at Harmon Stadium.
LEADING OFFÂ
- North Florida pounded out 13 hits led by three each from Alex Merritt and Tanner Murphy
- Yahir Gurrola extended his hit streak to nine games with a pair of hits including his second homer of the year
- Ospreys broke open a 3-3 tie game scoring 4 runs in the 7th and 8th innings to earn the sweep
- Austin Howze worked 4.1 innings in relief allowing just two hits and striking out four
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- UNF got things started in the first inning as Gurrola led off the game with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Patrick Ervin. Alex Merritt followed by a single to move Gurrola to third before Tanner Murphy drove him in with the team's third hit of the inning.
- Penn answered in the top of the second after Sean Phelan singled to start the inning and scored as the Quakers strung together a pair of two-out singles against Osprey starter Adam Polansky
- The hot-hitting Gurrola put the Ospreys back in the lead in the bottom half of the second when he clubbed his second homer of the season to left field
- The Quakers again responded in their next at-bat, capitalizing on a leadoff walk for Andrew Murmane. A single by Matt O'Neill moved Murmane to third followed by a sac fly to center for Tim Graul
- The Ospreys made it three straight scoring innings by adding a run in the third. Back-to-back singles for Merritt and Murphy followed by a walk by Wes Weeks loaded the bases. Chris Berry than was hit by a pitch to bring Merritt home for a 3-2 UNF lead... Penn made a pitching change and the Ospreys were unable to add any more runs despite having the bases loaded with no outs
- Penn would knot the score at 3 in the fifth when Graul reached base on a hit by pitch  and moved to second on a wild pitch. Howze replaced Alex Smith on the mound for the Ospreys and was greeted by an RBI double from Peter Matt
- After three scoreless innings for UNF, the Ospreys broke things open with three runs in the bottom of the 7th. A leadoff walk by Rey Gonzalez was followed by another walk by Patrick Ervin. Murphy then doubled to left scoring Gonzalez and moving Ervin to third. Weeks would push a single thru the left side that chased both Ervin and Murphy across the plate for a 6-3 UNF lead
- The Ospreys would close out the scoring with a manufactured insurance run in the 8th. Christian Diaz singled and was bunted over to second by Gonzalez. Ervin then scored Diaz with a single back up the middle.
- Howze kept the Quaker bats at bay after surrendering a double to the first batter he faced, as the righty went three-up, three-down over the final three innings of the game
