BRASELTON, Ga. -- Bolstered by the low round of the day and the play of freshman Andrew Alligood, the North Florida men's golf team moved into second-place Monday in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at Chateau Elan Legends Course. Alligood ended the day atop the individual medalist standings.
The Ospreys carded a 2-under 286, the only round under par for the day, and moved to even-par 576 for the tournament heading into the final round. UNF improved by four shots on day two thanks to a collection of 16 birdies in the round including 10 over the final nine holes of play.
Alligood fired a 3-under 69, highlighted by a stetch of five birdies in eight holes during the middle of his round. He opened the day with back-to-back bogeys including an unplayable lie penalty when his tee shot finished stuck in a tree on the second hole. With a 36-hole total of 141 (-3), he leads the individual competition by one-shot over Jacksonville's David Wicks.

"The guys battled back nicely today," said head coach Scott Schroeder, who is looking to lead UNF to its fifth title in his 11-year tenure. "We could have even been a little better today if not for a few bad holes. However, we put ourselves in a place for a chance to win and that's all you can ask for heading into the final round. Andrew did a great job and played a solid round following a tough break on his second hole. His performance was much needed by the team."
Fellow freshman Philip Knowles shot a 74 and joins Alligood among the Top 10, ranking tied for 9th at 145. Senior Taylor Hancock is tied for 13th (146) after an even-par 72, while sophomore Dillon Woods posted a 74 to end the day tied for 15th (147). Freshman Travis Trace bounced back with a 1-under 71 following a disappointing opening round. Trace trimmed 11 strokes off his day one performance and is in 25th-place at 153.

After entering the day with a six-shot lead on the field, Kennesaw State saw its lead trimmed to just two strokes heading into the final 18 holes. The Owls top the leaderboard at 2-under 574 followed by UNF in second. Jacksonville moved to third at 582 with Lipscomb (588), Florida Gulf Coast (592), USC Upstate (595) and Stetson (625) rounding out the team standings.
Tournament action at the Atlantic Sun Championship concludes with final round play on Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. The leaders are scheduled to tee off beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Hole 1. North Florida will play alongside Kennesaw State and Jacksonville on the final day.
