BRASELTON, Ga. – The North Florida men's golf team finished fourth and saw a pair of golfers finish in the Top 10 Tuesday afternoon in the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship at Chateau Elan Legends Course.
The No. 34-ranked Ospreys finished with a three-day total of 880 following a disappointing final round 304. UNF, who's five-member lineup featured three freshmen and a sophomore, entered the final round just two shots out of the lead but were never able to get things rolling on the last day.
Senior Taylor Hancock netted the squad's best final round performance, shooting a 1-over 73 en route to finishing tied for 8th at 219. Freshman Andrew Alligood was the team's top finisher, earning a tie for 6th at 218 after closing with a 77.
"This was not the finish we were looking for," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "Fortunately, we still have many goals in front of us that we can still attain. Today was a very bad day of golf for us. We were in position to win going into today and just played poorly. We are a very young team and it showed today. However, I am proud of how our guys handled themselves. They all showed great character in a tough situation. That was definitely great to see and should help us bounce back and be better prepared for the next time."

Freshman Philip Knowles shot a 77 and finished tied for 17th (222), to earn a Top 20 showing in his debut at the conference championship. Sophomore Dillon Woods and freshman Travis Trace also posted final rounds of 77 and finished 21st (224) and tied for 26th (230), respectively.
Kennesaw State captured the team championship with a tournament total of 864. Jacksonville was runner-up at 871 followed by Lipscomb (875), UNF, Florida Gulf Coast (882), USC Upstate (894) and Stetson (931). JU's David Wicks earned the individual title with a three round 4-under 212.
North Florida next turns its attention to NCAA Regional play on May 16-18. The regional fields will be announced May 5 at 9 a.m. on the Golf Channel.
