CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- After almost a month off from competition, the North Florida men's golf team returns to the links Friday in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate hosted by North Carolina at UNC Finley Golf Course.
The Tar Heel Intercollegiate was orginially scheduled to be played Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 8-9) but the impending approach of Hurricane Matthew along the eastern seaboard saw the event change to a plan for a Friday-Saturday (Oct. 7-8) schedule with Sunday (Oct. 9) serving as a possible postponement day of play.
The Ospreys, who finished 11th in their season opening event, send a lineup featuring four sophomores and a junior. All-ASUN standouts Philip Knowles and Andrew Alligood anchor the UNF squad while fellow sophomore Travis Trace and Dillon Woods hold their spots on the lineup card. Sophomore Jack Comstock is making his first appearance in team play after playing three times last season as an individual. In addition, freshman Michael Mattiace makes his collegiate debut playing as an individual.
The tournament field features 13 teams including several nationally recognized programs including host North Carolina, Liberty, Coastal Carolina and Virginia Tech.
The format for the Tar Heel Intercollegiate call for 36 holes of play Friday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. followed by a final round of 18 holes on Saturday, or Sunday depending on the effects of Hurricane Matthew in the area. UNF is scheduled to play alongside North Carolina and Liberty in opening day action (Full Day 1 pairings). Live scoring results for the event are available online at Golfstat.com.
Coach Schroeder says...
"After a long break, we are looking forward to getting back after it. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we have the chance to compete."
