Sand VB River City Rumble Results in Split Dual Match

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In their final regular season Atlantic Sun dual match of the season, the North Florida sand volleyball team opened with a 3-2 victory before dropping a hard fought 4-1 decision to Jacksonville in Wednesday's second contest at JU's Dolphin Beach Complex.
The Ospreys (9-9, 4-4 ASun) finished the conference slate in a three-way tie with the Dolphins (8-12, 4-4) and Mercer. Stetson will be the top seed at next week's conference championship while tournament host Florida Gulf Coast will be the fifth seed.
In the opener, JU and UNF split the sets at No.4 and 5 with Osprey duo Ambre Desaulnay/Kimberly Ferguson sweeping Jacksonville's Jizzyann Gesualdo/Shelby Babowicz 21-10, 21-18 at No. 4.
North Florida then got wins from No. 2 pair Tanner Garbutt/Tessa Alyman and No. 3 tandem Julie Trembley/Jess Kinlaw to secure the match victory. Garbutt and Aylman rallied from a close 22-20 loss in the first game to win a three-set thriller while Trembley/Kinlaw won in straight sets. JU's victories came in straight sets at No. 5 and a three-set battle at No. 1.
For the second match, Jacksonville flipped their pairs at No. 3 and 4 and were able to collect the match win. The Dolphins opened with sweeps at No. 4 and 5 before the Osprey pairing of Trembley/Kinlaw got the squad on the board with their second sweep of the day. JU would eventually claim the win after claiming a pair of tightly contested matches at the top two spots.
North Florida next concludes their regular season schedule in Siesta Key, Fla., facing Tulane in a dual match on Friday before participating in the highly competitive flighted pairs tournament at Fiesta on Siesta.
