Troy, Ala. – Senior Kayla Goff threw a shutout against Alabama State and junior Stacy McClelland hit her first home run of the season as the Ospreys defeated Western Kentucky 7-2 and Alabama State 11-0 in tournament action Friday night in Troy, Ala.
Â
The Ospreys (2-0) tallied 18 runs on 25 hits in their two outings of the day.
Â
We got off to a great start today. Our pitchers did a good job keeping our opponents off balance and we played great defense behind them," said coach Marcie Hickey. "The best part of our game though was our offense. We had 25 hits and scored 18 runs in two games. I couldn't be happier with our start to the weekend."
Â
North Florida got the bats working early this season, dropping four runs in the first inning against Western Kentucky (1-1).
Â
Junior Stacy McClelland got her first home run for the team this year later in the first inning which put the Ospreys up 6-2. A Katie Mandigo base-on-error in the bottom of the sixth inning scored freshman Ashley Niesman and put the Ospreys ahead by the final score of 7-2.
Â
Senior Kaylie Wallace got the win with a complete game, striking out six while walking four.
Â
In the second game against Alabama State (0-2), senior Kayla Goff led the way with a complete game shutout and Mandigo led the offense with three doubles and three RBIs.
Â
The Ospreys were up 6-0 in the final inning before posting five runs on the scoreboard. Goff finished with six strikeouts and two walks in her first outing of the season.
Â
North Florida is back in action tomorrow with two more tournament games. First up is Buffalo at 10:30 a.m. ET, then FAMU at 1:00 p.m. ET. Live Stats will be available for both games.
