@OspreySB Snags Two Comeback Victories in Day Two of Troy Invitational
2/7/2015 7:41:00 PM | Softball
Troy, Ala. – The North Florida softball team rallied in the final inning against Buffalo and FAMU, winning 6-5 and 7-6, respectively, in the second day of action at the Troy Subway Invitational.
Â
The Ospreys now sit at 4-0 and look to sweep their competition tomorrow in the final day of play.
Â
"We pulled out two tough wins today. We started sluggish in both games and battled back to get the wins. Our pitchers did a great job working together as a staff as we used three in each game," said head coach Marcie Hickey. "[Janet Snipe] was a great speed change and kept their hitters off balance and our seniors did a good job coming and closing out the games. It was great to see our team battle to win the close games."
Â
In the morning game against Buffalo, North Florida started slow, giving up four runs in the first two innings. Junior Stacy McClelland hit her second home run of the season, halving the deficit to two.
Â
Down 5-3 in the top of the seventh, The Ospreys rallied with two outs and took the lead, and the eventual win, 6-5. Junior Katie Mandigo, senior Abby Tewey, and freshman Alex Arciola all drove in a run in the final inning.
Â
Junior Janet Snipe earned her first win of the season, providing 4.1 innings of relief work and posting three strikeouts and just one walk. Senior Kaylie Wallace earned the save for her first of the season.
Â
In the second matchup of the day vs. Florida A&M, it took ten innings to decide the winner. The Ospreys tied the game at three separate points in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings before winning the game in the bottom of the tenth off of a wild pitch which scored Tewey. Mandigo scored both senior Kelly Wilson and junior Shelby Duncan on a single in the bottom of the seventh which put the game into extra innings.
Â
Senior Kayla Goff earned her second win of the season with three innings of relief work in the final three innings. She surrendered no runs and only two hits while striking out five.
The Ospreys finish up their tournament slate tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET against the hosts Troy. The game will be live streamed and live stats will also be available.
