JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team starts their 2015 campaign with five games in three days in Troy, Ala. at the Troy Subway Invitational.
Â
"We are excited for the season to get underway this weekend.  This tournament will be a good test for our team and will show us exactly where we stand," said coach Marcie Hickey. "We open with Western Kentucky and they are coming off of a successful season.  We have been playing with a lot of confidence and I'm looking forward to carrying that with us this weekend."
Â
The Ospreys look to improve on a 26-23 record in their 2014 campaign. The 2015 squad features an abundance of new faces, with 10 newcomers, including seven freshmen.
Â
This year's four seniors look to end their careers on a high note. Pitchers Kaylie Wallace and Kayla Goff lead a deep bullpen, while Abby Tewey and Kelly Wilson lead the lineup and the defense.
Â
Wallace, the 2013 A-Sun Pitcher of the Year, pitched a 12-9 record in 2014, with a team-high 81 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .230 avg. Wallace was named to the Preseason All-Conference team this past month.
Â
The Ospreys lineup is led by Tewey and Sophomore Ashia Kerr. Tewey is first among returners with RBIs last season (23), while Kerr leads returners in home runs (4). Kerr was named to the A-Sun All-Freshmen team last season.
