PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The No. 28-ranked North Florida men's golf team earned a fourth-place finish in the 7th annual Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley Course after closing with a 292 in final round action on Tuesday.
The Ospreys wrapped up their spring season opener with a 54-hole total of 884. Sophomore Osten Waite led the way for UNF in the third round carding a 1-over 71, narrowly missing his career best score by a single stroke.
With a final round 75, Joey Petronio continued his solid senior campaign tallying a team-best 220 to finish in 13th place. The Top 20 showing was Petronio's fifth of the year, matching his career best for Top 20 finishes in a season.
Juniors Austin Padova and Taylor Hancock both fired rounds of 73 (+3) on Tuesday to finish tied for 17th (223) and 21st (224), respectively. Redshirt freshman Dillon Woods shot a final round 78 to finish tied for 32nd at 227, while Waite rounded out the Ospreys lineup tied for 62nd (235). Competing as an individual, junior Joe Stepnes was tied for 51st (232) including a 77 on the final day.
"We played just okay today," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "It was really another day of just too many mistakes keeping us from playing really well. Earning a fourth-place finish is a good way to start the spring season. I was proud of Osten Waite's effort today, as his solid round really helped us keep in the hunt."
No. 15 North Carolina led wire-to-wire in claiming the team championship with a score of 873. Florida finished second at 880 followed by No. 30 UNLV (882), UNF and No. 3 Florida State (887)Â rounding out the Top Five. UNLV's John Oda captured the individual medalist title with a three-round total of even-par 270.
North Florida continues its spring ledger next weekend as the Ospreys are set to make their annual appearance in the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Feb. 14-15 in Gainesville, Fla.
