GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 27-ranked North Florida men's golf team continues its spring competition ledger this weekend in the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70 / 6,701-yards).
The Ospreys are coming off a fourth-place finish in their spring opener, the Sea Best Invitational, on Feb. 2-3. The Gator Invitational is a two-day 54-hole competition featuring a field of 14 teams highlighted by seven teams currently ranked among the nation's Top 50.
Senior Joey Petronio, who claimed his third Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week honor after UNF's opener, leads the Osprey lineup for the weekend. He will be joined by fellow senior MJ Maguire, juniors Taylor Hancock and Austin Padova and redshirt freshman Dillon Woods.
"We always look forward to participating in the Gator Invitational," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "The greens have been redone and should be very good but also really challenging. The guys have been working hard in practice the last few weeks so it should be exciting to see how we stack up early in the spring. It is expected to be cool and windy so we will need to be focused and patient over the three rounds."
No. 3 Florida State is the top ranked squad in the field. Vanderbilt (5) and USF (22) are also ranked in the Top 25 with UNF, UAB (33), Florida (38) and Georgia Southern (47) listed among the Top 50. Other teams competing this weekend include: Arkansas, College of Charleston, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Liberty, Mercer and UCF.
The Gator tees off with 36 holes of play Saturday beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The Ospreys will play alongside FSU and USF with a special pairing that includes brothers - MJ (UNF) and Jack (FSU) Maguire.
