Â
DeLAND, Fla. – The final game of the regular season takes place on the road for University of North Florida women's basketball as the Ospreys take the quick trip south to Stetson for a Saturday afternoon game at the Edmunds Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., and the game will air live on ESPN3.
Â
"Stetson presents another big challenge to our team," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "This is an opportunity to move up in the standings if we take care of business."
Â
UNF comes off a 56-24 loss to No. 21/22 Florida Gulf Coast in the Ospreys' home finale on Wednesday night. Poor shooting hurt the Ospreys, but solid UNF defense resulted in Florida Gulf Coast tying its season-low for points. Additionally, it was just the second time in Atlantic Sun play in which the Eagles were held to under 60 points.
Â
Â
Down To the End of the Regular Season: This is the eighth time UNF finishes the regular season away from UNF Arena during its Division I years. Since joining the Atlantic Sun, UNF is 4-5 in regular-season finales and have won its last three.
Â
Seeding Scenario: Saturday is a must-win game for the Ospreys to have a chance at the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament. UNF enters Saturday with a 2-11 record and in eighth place, one game behind Lipscomb. Should the Ospreys win and Lipscomb loses, UNF will have the No. 7 seed and face Stetson in the Atlantic Sun Tournament First Round. However, an Osprey loss or a Lipscomb win on Saturday will result in UNF having the No. 8 seed and playing Florida Gulf Coast in the opening round.
Â
Going All 40: Destinee Smith has seen plenty of time on the court in the last four games, playing in all 40 minutes against Kennesaw State (Feb. 14), Lipscomb (Feb. 19), Northern Kentucky (Feb. 21) and Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 25).
Â
Scouting Stetson: Comes into Saturday's regular-season finale with a 21-6 overall record and 10-3 in Atlantic Sun play… clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's Atlantic Sun Tournament… on a five-game winning streak and has scored 70+ points during that stretch… registered two 100-point games this season, including a 103-75 victory over Lipscomb on Feb. 12… leads the Atlantic Sun in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just shooting 35.6 percent... also the conference leader in blocks (4.8 per game) and steals (9.6 per game)… celebrates Senior Day on Saturday, honoring C.J. Coddington, Cherisse Burris, Myeisha Hall and Jama Sharp… four Hatters average double-digit points – Brianti Saunders (13.9), Sharp (13.8), Hall (13.5) and Amber Porter (13.3)… Porter leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per game and has 63 total blocks… Sharp is averaging 4.00 assists and 3.2 steals per game.
Â
UNF-Stetson Series: Stetson leads the all-time series 11-8 and has won the last three meetings.
