Â
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The first half of Atlantic Sun play ends for University of North Florida women's basketball on Saturday at USC Upstate. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., from the Hodge Center and the game will air live on ESPN3.
"We will need to bounce back and be resilient to achieve our goals for tomorrow," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "We need to understand that our defensive intensity will dictate our offense. We need to control what we can in order to get our first conference road win."
Â
The Ospreys search for their first conference road win of the season and look to stop a two-game skid. UNF comes off a low-scoring 46-40 loss at Kennesaw State on Thursday. Cold shooting plagued UNF at Kennesaw as the Ospreys shot a season-low 23.0 percent.
Â
Â
First Half Ending: When it comes to finishing the first part of Atlantic Sun play, the odds have not been in UNF's favor with the Ospreys being 3-6 in those games.
Â
An Upstate Return: Paulina Zaveckaite began her collegiate career at USC Upstate and was a freshman in the 2011-12 season. Zaveckaite averaged 6.4 points and 7.9 rebounds for the Spartans. She enters Saturday leading the Atlantic Sun with 11.4 rebounds per game, which is 10th in the NCAA.
Â
Blocking Up the Charts: With three blocks at Kennesaw State, Janeá Williams keeps moving up on UNF's career and season record lists. Just in her sophomore season, Williams has 42 career blocks (ranks ninth) and 28 blocks the year (tied for eighth).
Â
Scouting USC Upstate: Enters Saturday with a 10-11 overall record and 2-4 in Atlantic Sun play… comes off buzzer-beating, 66-64 win over Jacksonville after Shelby Hicks' put-back jumper… other conference victory was a three-point 71-68 triumph against Lipscomb on Jan. 14… has a strong home-court advantage this season, going 9-1 on its home floor… only loss at home was to Kennesaw State to begin conference play… Sharmayne Edwards and Brittany Starling average 12.8 and 12.4 points, respectively… Starling is leading the team with 9.3 rebounds, which is third in the Atlantic Sun.
Â
UNF-USC Upstate Series: UNF holds a slim 13-12 lead in the all-time series, but USC Upstate has won seven of the last eight meetings.
