Out of the Box
About Lipscomb: Similar to North Florida, the Bisons are also coming off an Atlantic Sun bye week, with their last series coming against Northern Kentucky the weekend of April 25th. The Bisons have posted some impressive conference victories this season, with sweeps of Kennesaw State and ETSU. They also took two out of three against first place Mercer at home in mid-April. After opening the year losing nine of its first 11 games, Lipscomb rattled off 10-straight wins and went 16-3 in the month of March. The Bisons currently sit in third place in the Atlantic Sun standings and have clinched a 2014 Atlantic Sun postseason berth.
Scouting the Bisons: Shortstop Grant Massey and outfielder Drew Adams lead the way offensively for the Bisons. Massey has played in all 49 games and boasts a team-best .318 batting average. Adams has been the team's primary run producer, driving in 45 runs which is the third best in the league. Friday night's starting pitcher Ian-Martinez-McGraw has a team-high seven wins and has fanned 49 batters this season.
Chasing 200: In the midst of career year, junior Drew Weeks comes into the series with 195 career hits. He looks to become the eighth member of the North Florida 200-hit club. Against conference opponents this season, Weeks is batting .494 in 89 at bats.
Mid-Week Recap: Playing in their final non-conference game of the season, the Ospreys were not able to overcome an early deficit, falling to Georgia Tech, 9-6. Trailing 9-2, North Florida mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh with three runs. The Yellow Jackets, who came into the game as the national leader in double plays, turned a crucial twin killing in the top of the eighth to help them get out of a bases loaded, no out jam.
Power Numbers for Olmstead: Approaching the same number of at bats as he had last season, sophomore Corbin Olmstead has nearly doubled his offensive production from a year ago. In 146 at bats in 2014, he has hit nine home runs and has a slugging percentage of .623. He is batting .363 and has hit safely in his last 12 games. Last season he batted .303 with no home runs and boasted a slugging percentage of .373 in 150 at bats.
Hits Coming in Twos: Junior Garrick Ferguson put together another two-hit performance against Georgia Tech, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Tuesday. He has recorded two hits in each of his last three starts and has raised his batting average 38 percentage points since April 13th.
The 100 RBI Club: A single into centerfield against Georgia Tech brought in the third Osprey run and was the 100th RBI of Drew Weeks' career. In the Division I era only five other Ospreys have recorded 100 or more career RBIs. Right behind Weeks is teammate Alex Bacon who also had a run driven in against the Yellow Jackets giving him 96 for his career. Bacon is tied with Assistant Coach Andrew Hannon for sixth place in Division I era.
Atlantic Sun's Top Hitting Team: The Ospreys come into the weekend with a team batting average of .309, tops in the Atlantic Sun and 10th in the entire country. They also lead the league in slugging percentage (.421) and are third in hits with 499.
