JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team heads to Georgia to face Atlantic Sun competitors Kennesaw State and Mercer this weekend.
"We are bringing a lot of confidence into this weekend," said head coach Audra Cohen. "I expect us to play aggressive tennis and dictate play."
The Ospreys have a chance to clinch a share of the regular season title this weekend with two wins and an ETSU loss. North Florida also has a chance to clinch the top-seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament with two wins and losses by ETSU and Lipscomb.
The Ospreys enter the week with an 11-5 dual match record, including 4-0 in A-Sun play. North Florida went 2-1 last week, including 2-0 in A-Sun matches. The Ospreys swept ETSU and USC Upstate 4-0 last weekend, but fell 4-0 to No. 36 Florida State. The North Florida duo of Taylor Hollander and Marina Cunningham, who are on a seven-match winning streak, boast an 11-1 dual match record and are 3-0 in A-Sun doubles play.
With the success of the week, Esther Zuniga landed her first Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor. Zuniga is 4-0 in singles against conference opponents. Zuniga downed ETSU's Ana Gerbasi 6-1, 6-2 and USC Upstate's Taylor Cohen 6-1, 6-1 to remain undefeated in conference play.
Kennesaw State enters the match with 5-11 dual record and is 1-4 in the A-Sun. In their last outing, the Owls fell 4-3 to Mercer on April 2. The Owls' duo of Alexandra Apostu and Virginie Stein has a 7-2 dual record and are 5-0 at No. 1 doubles in A-Sun competition.
Mercer enters the match with a 9-11 dual record, with a 3-2 A-Sun record. The Bears' duo of Danielle Jones and Lucie Payrat hold a 10-3 record at No. 1 doubles and are 3-1 against A-Sun teams.
The Ospreys face Kennesaw State on Friday, April 4 at 9 a.m., at Fair Oaks Park. North Florida takes on Mercer on Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m., at LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
