#WTEN Swoops Past NKU Into Top A-Sun Seed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team swept Northern Kentucky 7-0 at the UNF Tennis Complex on Friday morning.
With the win, the Ospreys earn the top seed for the upcoming Atlantic Sun Tournament and move within one match victory of claiming the conference regular season title. The ASun Tournament will be played Apr. 17-19 at the UNF Tennis Complex.
"It was nice to clinch the top spot in conference today," said head coach Audra Cohen. "The team is excited and proud to be in the top spot, but overall, they know there is still a lot of work to be done. We are staying focused and looking forward to concluding the regular match season at home tomorrow against an energized Lipscomb team."
In doubles, Marina Cunningham and Taylor Hollander kept to their winning ways posting an 8-3 victory over Sierra Nellessen and Marta Romeo at the No. 2 spot, marking their 10th consecutive victory. At No. 3 doubles, Esther Zuniga and Mariella Calderon clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Nicole Soutar and Yasmine Xantos. Simona Weymar and Rebeca Pereira defeated Danielle Donahue and Maria Voscekova, 8-3, at the No. 1 to round out doubles action.
In singles play, the Ospreys tallied wins at all six positions. Cunningham made quick work of Romeo breezing to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 3. At No. 5, Pereira notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nellessen, with Weymar clinching the match for UNF by topping Voscekova 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. At No. 2, Zuniga also won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, over Donahue, while Calderon downed Xantos 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6. Hollander defeated Soutar 6-2, 6-4 at No.4 to complete the singles' sweep.
The Ospreys conclude their regular season Saturday at 10 a.m. against Lipscomb at the UNF Tennis Complex, and will recognize lone senior Simona Weymar in a brief ceremony prior to the match.
