JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team closes its Atlantic Sun regular season at home playing host to Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb at the UNF Tennis Complex on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
"We are excited to finish up the conference regular season at home," said head coach Audra Cohen. "This is a big weekend for us because two wins this weekend will secure us with the A-Sun regular season trophy, and more importantly this weekend is a good opportunity to get prepared for the conference tournament at home next weekend. Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb are both much improved programs, so we are ready for another battle this week."
A weekend sweep of the two matches by North Florida would clinch the Atlantic Sun regular season title for the Ospreys.
UNF enter the weekend with a 13-5 overall record and a 6-0 mark in Atlantic Sun play. Last weekend, UNF trounced Kennesaw State 6-1 on April 4 and swept Mercer 7-0 on April 5. Marina Cunningham and Taylor Hollander are on a nine-match winning streak and boast an 13-1 dual match record going 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and 5-1 at No. 3.
Northern Kentucky enters the match with a 5-14 overall record and with a 0-7 conference record. In their last outing, they fell 5-2 to Lipscomb on April 9. Maria Voscekova has compiled an 18-7 overall record, going 13-6 in dual matches at the No. 1 position. In doubles, Voscekova and Danielle Donahue post an 8-6 record at the No. 1 spot.
Lipscomb enters the match with a 10-9 overall record and have a 3-4 record in A-Sun play. Laura Kent holds a 10-6 record in dual match play at No. 3 singles.
A brief ceremony to honor the team's senior, Simona Weymar, will precede the match against Lipscomb on Saturday.
