No. 46 Arkansas Outlasts #WTEN

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to No. 46 Arkansas on Tuesday morning at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys started strong taking the doubles point from the Razorbacks. Simona Weymar and Rebeca Pereira struck first at the No. 1 spot downing Kimberly-Ann Surin and Flavia Araujo, 8-4. Arkansas answered by claiming the No. 3 position to tie it up 1-1. Taylor Hollander and Marina Cunningham continued their win streak and clinched the doubles point for UNF by topping Yang Pang and Sasha Shkorupeieva, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.
Weymar captured the only lone singles win for the Ospreys by defeating Pang, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 1 position.
Arkansas captured the other five singles points, though North Florida forced third-sets on four of the courts. At No. 3, Cunningham grabbed the first set 6-3 over Sara McLean, before falling 6-1, 6-3 in the second and third, respectively. At the No. 4 position, Hollander fell 7-6 (7-4) in the first set, but grabbed the second set 6-2 against Skhorupeieva. Hollander built a 5-0 lead in the third set, but suffered a 7-5 defeat.
Pereira split the first two sets versus Surin at No. 5, winning set one 6-4 and falling 7-5 in the second. Surin earned the match victory 6-3 in the deciding set. In similar fashion, Quetzali Vazquez lost set one 6-3 but rallied for the 6-3 set two victory over Brittany Huxley, who claimed the match with a 6-1 win in set three.
The Ospreys return to Atlantic Sun Conference play Friday against rival ETSU at 10 a.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.
