MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Facing a tough challenge, No. 63 University of North Florida fell 7-0 to No. 14 Clemson on Sunday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Courts.
"Clemson is a strong team and they attack relentlessly at every position," said head coach Audra Cohen. "Despite the score, I felt we did a better job forcing pressure on our opponents, rather than hoping they miss. I am happy with the changes and I know that if we continue with these changes we will get the opportunity again to beat a highly-ranked team."
The Tigers grabbed the doubles point early with a Jessy Rompies and Yuilynn Miao 8-1 victory over Michelle Valdez and Esther Zuniga at No. 3 doubles. No. 25 Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya downed Rebeca Pereira and Simona Weymar 8Â-3 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Valdez put up the toughest fight at No. 5 singles, forcing Rompies to a second-set tiebreaker in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) loss. Weymar, Zuniga and Pereira dropped hard-fought matches to nationally-ranked players.
The Ospreys return to action to open Atlantic Sun play at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, March 21 at 10 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
