JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball returns to its home field for five games this week and the homestand begins on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Bowling Green. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m., from the UNF Softball Complex.
Â
UNF comes off a 1-2 road trip to Kennesaw State last weekend, earning a 1-0 win on Sunday with Kelly Wilson scoring on an Abby Tewey sacrifice fly in the sixth. Mariah Reynolds' bat came alive during the series, hitting .571 and slugging 1.875. Reynolds drilled three home runs during Saturday's doubleheader, including two in Game One in order to become the first Osprey to hit two homers in a game since Jackie Reese did it against Kennesaw State on Mar. 25, 2011. Among Reynolds' home runs was her third career grand slam. She is the first player in UNF's Division I history to hit three grand slams in her career.
Â
Bowling Green concludes a trip to the Sunshine State with Tuesday's doubleheader. The Falcons come off a 1-4 performance at last weekend's UCF Spring Fling. While Bowling Green picked up a 9-3 win over Penn at the tournament, they were shutout in all of their losses. Katie Yoho leads the team with a .327 batting average and 18 hits, while Erika Stratton and Chelsea Raker each have three home runs.
Â
The all-time series between UNF and Bowling Green is tied at 1-1. Tuesday's doubleheader is the first time the two teams are playing outside of a tournament format. Bowling Green won the first-ever meeting 1-0 on Feb. 13, 2009 at the UCF Early Bird Tournament, while UNF had a 7-1 victory at the Buzz Classic on Mar. 7, 2010.
Â
Admission to all UNF home softball games is free.
