JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kelly Wilson scored the game-winning run on a two-out, walk-off single by Abby Tewey in the seventh inning as University of North Florida softball topped Mount St. Mary's 3-2 Thursday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex.
Â
"We hit the ball pretty well and started out strong," said head coach Marcie Hickey. "We still need to do a better job on executing on the little things and group our hits a little better. We did well enough to get runners in scoring position, but could not get that last hit to really break the game open."
Â
UNF went up 2-0 in the bottom of the second after Lexi Taylor's two-out hit to center field drove in both Tewey and Mariah Reynolds. However, Mount St. Mary's tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Lindsey Ruhle brought home Holly Buckel from second for the Mount's first run. Ruhle later scored the game-tying run on a Marisa Mayes hit to right center.
Â
Wilson led the seventh inning off with an infield single and then stole second, allowing the Ospreys to have a runner at second base for when Tewey hit eventual walk-off.
Â
Cortney Radke came in relief for the final 2.0 innings and was credited with the win in order to move to 6-1 on the season. Radke limited the Mount to one hit and struck out one batter.
Â
Sam Lichtner also came in relief and had the loss after pitching the final 2.2 innings. She allowed one run off four hits and struck out two.
Â
UNF registered 11 hits in the game, which is the fourth time this season the Ospreys had double-digit hits. Four Ospreys – Ashia Kerr, Lexi Taylor, Tewey and Wilson – had two hits apiece.  Taylor also had two RBI.
Â
UNF returns to action this weekend with its Atlantic Sun-opening series. The Ospreys host Lipscomb in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday at the UNF Softball Complex. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday and first pitch is set for 1 p.m. Admission to all UNF softball home games is free.
