Â
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball opens a four-game homestand with a single game against Mount St. Mary's. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., at the UNF Softball Complex.
Â
"Tomorrow will be a good final test heading into our conference opening weekend," said head coach Marcie Hickey. "Mount St. Mary's is off to a strong start, so it will be important to come out strong and play well for seven innings."
Â
The Ospreys return to their homefield after compiling a 5-1 record on the road last week. UNF comes off a 4-1 performance at the FIU Tournament, getting three wins over Dartmouth and then topping FIU for the first time in program history. It was UNF's final early season tournament.
Â
Two stolen base records were tied in the Ospreys' first game of the tournament. UNF stole a single-game record tying five bases against Dartmouth on Feb. 21. The last time UNF tallied five stolen bases was against Manhattan on Feb. 17, 2007. All of the Ospreys' stolen bases against Dartmouth came from Ashley Holton and Kelly Wilson. Holton accounted for three stolen bases, which was the fourth time in program history an Osprey recorded three steals in a game. The last Osprey to have three steals was Tina Cannon against Concord on Mar. 20, 1998.
Â
Mount St. Mary's has spent the last week in Florida and went 3-0 at last weekend's rain-shortened JU Wingate by Wyndam Tournament. However, the Mount fell 1-0 at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday. The Mount was scheduled to play Jacksonville in a doubleheader on Wednesday, but due to weather, that has been changed to a single game to take place Thursday evening after their game at UNF. Mount St. Mary's finishes its Florida trip at this weekend's USF Under Armour Invitational.
Â
UNF leads the all-time series 6-0 and swept last year's doubleheader. Both games of the doubleheader only took five innings as the Ospreys took Game One 9-0 and Game Two 8-0. UNF has yet to allow the Mount to score a run in the last four meetings. In the all-time series, Mount St. Mary's has only scored once against the Ospreys, which was in the sixth inning on Mar. 11, 2007 at the Stetson Tournament.
Admission to all UNF home softball games is free.
