
#SB Fends Off Dartmouth for 5-3 Win

MIAMI, Fla. – University of North Florida softball held off Dartmouth's seventh-inning rally in order to defeat the Big Green 5-3 on Sunday during the final day of the FIU Tournament held at FIU Softball Stadium.

Dartmouth got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Alyssa Jorgensen getting home on a Karen Chaw RBI single to left field. However, UNF countered in the bottom half of the first. Kelly Wilson scored the Ospreys' first run to tie it up at 1-1.

UNF added to its lead with one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth. With two outs and a runner on first, Ashley Holton drilled a double to right center to drive in Abby Tewey and make it 2-1. In the fifth, Lexi Taylor got home on a Dartmouth wild pitch to put the Ospreys up by two. In the sixth, Mariah Reynolds and Rachel Engel drove in the Ospreys' two runs. Reynolds sent a one-out RBI-double down the left field line that allowed Marissa Thomas to score. Engel's two-out RBI single to left field brought home Katie Mandigo and UNF took a 5-1 lead.

Dartmouth cut the Ospreys' lead down to two with a two-run seventh inning. Chloe Madill had the inning's first run when she scored on a Brianna Lohmann sacrifice fly to right field. In the next at-bat with a runner on third, Kelsey Miller's hit up the middle brought home Kara Curosh to make it 5-3. However, Cortney Radke struck out the game's final two batters to halt the Big Green's rally.

Radke, who came in relief for the final 3.2 innings, was credited with the win. She allowed one earned run off three hits and struck out three.

Kristen Rumley had the loss after giving up two earned runs off six hits in 5.0 innings. She also struck out six.

Thomas led the Ospreys with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate and scoring one run and tallying one RBI.

UNF returns to action on Thursday at the UNF Softball Complex when the Ospreys host Mount St. Mary's. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
