#WTEN Soars Past Troy, 5-2

TROY, Ala. — Taylor Hollander's victory at No. 6 singles clinched the match for the University of North Florida women's tennis team with a 5-2 victory over Troy on Thursday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

"Today was tough all around, it was windy and we played a talented Troy team," said head coach Audra Cohen. "I am very happy with Taylor today, she stepped up huge in singles and doubles and has shown immense maturity as a person and player. I was happy we pulled out the wins in the matches we could have easily lost to ourselves if we didn't hold our composure."

North Florida got off to a rough start Rebeca Pereira and Michelle Valdez fell to Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. The Ospreys fought back and clinched the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. At No. 3 doubles, Marina Cunningham and Hollander beat Lyubov Dorofeeva and Brooke Durden, 8-0. Simona Weymar and Esther Zuniga defeated Monica Gonzalez and Margot De Hann 8-3 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.

The Trojans started strong in singles with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Cosovic defeated Cunningham 6-4, 6-0 to tie up the score, 1-1 at the No. 3 spot. Troy took a 2-1 lead with a Huynh 6-4, 6-0 win over Zuniga. The Ospreys countered the Trojans run and garnered wins at the Nos. 1,4,5,6 positions to get the victory.

Pereira got the Ospreys first singles win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Gonzalez at the No. 4 position. A 7-5, 7-5 Weymar victory over Dorofeeva at the No. 1 spot helped the Ospreys go up 3-2. At No. 6 singles, Hollanders 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Durden put the Ospreys up 4-2 to clinch the match. Valdez defeated De Hann in a three-set match at the No. 5 spot. De Hann took the first-set in a tiebreaker 6-7 (1-7), but Valdez countered with a quick 6-1, 6-2 second and third-set to claim the match.
