
#WTEN Begins Three-Match Road Trip at Troy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team goes on a three-match road trip across Alabama and South Carolina this weekend.
"We will have three good opportunities on the road," said head coach Audra Cohen. "All and all, I feel we are prepared and have been getting better each day. This weekend will be a good opportunity to see how much our hard work has paid off."
UNF comes into the weekend 2-0 in dual matches with its most recent victory being a 4-3 win against UCF. The Ospreys' Michelle Valdez clinched the UCF match at the No. 5 spot with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win over Courtney Cesarini. The Ospreys also accumulated wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
The Ospreys start the trip with a match on Thursday against Troy 3 p.m. EST/ 2 p.m. CST at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. Troy goes into the match with a 2-4 overall record, but is 1-0 at home. The Trojans come off a 6-1 home victory over Jackson State. Â Troy also beat fellow Atlantic Sun competitor USC Upstate 4-3 in its season-opener. The Trojans are 4-1 with Anja Cosovic at the No. 3 spot and 3-1 with Margot De Hann at the No. 5 spot.
UNF travels to No. 33 South Carolina for their first match against a ranked team of the year on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carolina Tennis Center. Â The Gamecocks, who are 6-2 going into the weekend, are scheduled to play South Carolina State on Friday morning. South Carolina is 7-1 at No. 2 singles with Katerina Popova going 4-0, Bridgit Folland going 1-0 and Elixane Lechemia 2-0 and Alex Martin at 0-1. The Gamecocks are undefeated at No. 2 doubles with Folland and Popova going 4-0, and Popova and Ximena Siles Luna going 1-0, along with winning a doubles match due to forfeit.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Ospreys head to Orangeburg, S.C., to take on South Carolina State at the Bulldog Tennis Courts at Noon. The Bulldogs go into the weekend with a 1-1 record; their lone recorded victory was an 8-2 win against Savannah College of Art and Design. The Bulldogs were picked to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the conference's preseason poll.
