Â
ORLANDO, Fla. – Fresh off two wins, University of North Florida women's basketball makes the short trip to UCF on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m., from the CFE Arena.
Â
"We are looking forward to tomorrow's opportunity," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "UCF is a very long and athletic team that is relentless on the glass. We will have to control the glass and limit their second-chance opportunities, but I know our team is excited for this match-up."
Â
Tuesday is the fifth of six-straight road games for the Ospreys. UNF comes off wins against UNC Wilmington and Eastern Kentucky at last weekend's UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic. UNF was the only team to go undefeated at the UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic, putting up a 2-0 record.
Â
Â
A Familiar Place: Four Ospreys hail from the Orlando area. Both senior Brittney Wright and sophomore Amber Robinson are from Altamonte Springs, junior Kadesia Johnson comes from Kissimmee and sophomore Bailey Florin is from Orlando. Additionally, two staff members graduated from UCF. Assistant coach Keunta Miles is a 2007 graduate and was a member of the women's basketball team. Athletic trainer Lisa DiBenedetto graduated from UCF in 2010 and was a student-athletic trainer for the football, women's soccer and men's and women's tennis teams.
Â
Only Eight: UNF limited UNC Wilmington to only eight second-half points in the Ospreys' 55-41 on Nov. 28. It was the first time UNF held any opponent to single-digit points for a half.
Â
Double-Digit Streak: Senior Destinee Smith enters Tuesday's game with a four-game streak of double-digit points. Last weekend, she combined for 37 points and two season-highs at the UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic. Against UNC Wilmington, Smith put up a then-season-high 18 points. She topped her season-best the next day, pouring in 19 against Eastern Kentucky.
Â
Scouting UCF: Enters Tuesday with a 3-2 record… comes off a 67-62 loss at Massachusetts on Sunday… has already played two Atlantic Sun teams, falling to Stetson (67-49, Nov. 19) and defeating Jacksonville (71-59, Nov. 25)… two players average double-digit points with Zykira Lewis leading at 23.2 points per game. Lewis had 41 points against Florida Atlantic in the season opener and was 8-for-10 from three-point range… Brittney Montgomery averages 10.0 points per game and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.
Â
UNF-UCF Series: UCF leads the all-time series 3-0… this is the third time the series takes place in Orlando… in the last meeting, UCF won 53-41 on Nov. 14, 2012 in Orlando.
