JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida men's tennis took time away from the tennis courts on Monday to volunteer at the Sulzbacher Center. The Ospreys helped prepare and serve food to the homeless men, women and children that came through the doors for Monday's lunch.
Â
"It was a great day and really showed the guys a different world than what they are used to living in," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "We met so many wonderful people."
Â
Opened in 1995, Sulzbacher Center serves nutritious meals and offers shelter and a variety of other programs to the homeless throughout Jacksonville. The Sulzbacher Center is Northeast Florida's largest provider of comprehensive services to the homeless and is one of the few centers throughout the nation to offer its services 24 hours a day throughout the entire year.
Â
The Ospreys assisted in making and serving Monday's lunch, which consisted of meat loaf, gravy, rice, carrots and cabbage.
Â
"It was eye-opening, but it was great to go to the Sulzbacher Center," said Jack Findel-Hawkins. "We were very fortunate to go as a team and help those that are less fortunate than us. It was great to give back to the community and Jacksonville."
