Â
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of North Florida women's basketball continues its play on the road as the Ospreys travel to Samford for a Monday night game at the Pete Hanna Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., EST.
"Samford is a very fundamental team that executes well on the offensive end of the floor," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "We will need to be very solid on defensive in order to get our first road win this year."
Â
UNF searches for its first win on the road after the Ospreys fell 81-53 at Miami on Friday night. The Ospreys' 53 points were the most they have ever scored against the Hurricanes.
Â
A First Visit: Monday night's game is the first time UNF has played in the state of Alabama. However, UNF has faced six different schools that are located in Alabama and is 5-2 against teams from Alabama.
Â
Back Home: Freshman Maiya Rumph is the only Alabama native on the Ospreys' roster. She is from Madison, Ala., and was part of the Sparkman High School team that reached the 2014 6A AHSAA state finals.
Â
Scouting Samford: Enters Monday with a 1-1 record… comes off a 61-50 win over Alabama A&M on Friday night, which was Samford's home opener… started the season with a 64-48 loss at Memphis… Taylor Reece is averaging a team-best 14.0 points per game… Destiney Smith averages 10.0 points per game and a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game.
