Final Results
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The South Region No. 14-ranked North Florida women's cross country team concluded their regular season race slate with a sixth-place finish in the highly competitive Crimson Classic held on Alabama's Harry Pritchett Course.
The Ospreys finished with a team score of 180 points led by a pair of Top 25 performances from freshman standout Eden Meyer in 23rd at 18:03.04 and senior Alessandra Valdes in 25th at 18:05.25, a new personal record in the 5k.
"Eden contines to be impressive in her freshman campaign as she again finished as our top runner," said UNF head coach Jeff Pigg. "She is just doing a fantastic job. She wasn't really pleased with her performance today and is anxious to get back out and race again. Alessandra has just recently become physically able to run where she expects to and had a very solid performance for us today."
Junior Alexis Irwin was the squad's third finisher posting a time of 18:13.97 to finish 31st while senior Elle Baker ended the race 41st with a time of 18:21.17. Fellow senior Andelka Tancic continues to race while slightly under the weather but notched a 60th-place finish in a time of 18:35.61. Senior Alyssa Brandt was 65th at 18:39.71 and sophomore Lauren Gonzalez collected a personal best 18:45.36 in finishing 69th to round out UNF's top seven peformers.
"I was thrilled for Alexis," added Pigg. "She had one of her best cross country races and we are starting to see her practice success reflected in race results. Elle was solid again and has enjoyed some great practice sessions recently while Andelka has battled some sickness but will be at the top of her game in a couple weeks at the conference championships."
The remainder of the competitors for the Ospreys included freshmen Dagmar Olsen with a time of 18:55.72 (86th) and Emily Stallings at 22:03.95.
North Florida's next race comes on Nov. 1 at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in Deland, Fla.
"This was a great weekend and we are looking forward to getting even better over the next week week," Pigg concluded.
