JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball finishes its first home Atlantic Sun weekend on Saturday when the Ospreys host Lipscomb at 4:30 p.m., at UNF Arena.
Â
"We made strides last night into getting to where we want to be," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "Tomorrow is going to be a battle and Lipscomb is much improved from previous years. We have to be ready to play another night of solid defense and be on point with our offense."
Â
UNF still searches for its first conference win after coming up just short against A-Sun leader Northern Kentucky on Thursday night at UNF Arena. Ki Conner paced the Ospreys with 20 points, which was her first 20-or-more performance since putting up a career-high 23 points at ETSU on Jan. 26, 2013. The Ospreys boast the Atlantic Sun's top scoring defense, limiting opponents to 60.7 points per game, which is ranked No. 52 in the NCAA.
Â
Lipscomb is also in the hunt for its first A-Sun win of the season. The Lady Bisons have lost their last six games and come off an 86-64 setback to Jacksonville on Thursday night. However, Lipscomb has registered 70+ points in three of its five games and 80+ points in each of its three wins on the season. Danay Fothergill enters Saturday with a 20.6 point-per-game average. She is also averaging 25.0 points per game in Atlantic Sun games this season. Meanwhile, Ashley Southern averages a double-double with 15.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per game.
Â
UNF holds a 13-2 lead in the all-time series and swept both games last season. In the most recent meeting, UNF won 61-49 on Mar. 2, 2013 in Nashville, Tenn.
Â
Saturday's game is also designated as Coach's Alumni Game. Three members of UNF's coaching staff – Nancy Miller, Erica White and Charlsea Owen – hail from the First Coast. Fans that show up to the game sporting gear from either coach's high school can purchase tickets for $3. Local high schools represented by UNF's coaching staff are Fletcher (Miller), Ribault (White) and Pedro Menendez (Owen).
Â
**Tickets for the 2013-14 UNF women's basketball team season can be purchased at the UNF Arena ticket office, by mail (season ticket orders only), online or by phone at (904) 620-BIRD (2473). Two ticket package options are available: season tickets for $35 (15 home dates) and Family 4 Pack for $105 (includes two adults and two youth tickets). Single game pricing is $6 Adult and $4 Youth 17-and-under, Senior Citizens 55+, UNF Faculty/Staff, and Military. Students with a valid Osprey1 Card and children 2-and-under are free.**
