JACKSONVILLE – The North Florida basketball team welcomes crosstown rival Jacksonville to UNF Arena on Friday at 7 p.m., in the latest edition of the SunTrust River City Rumble.
The Ospreys (10-9, 4-2 ASun) and Dolphins (8-9, 4-2 ASun) enter Friday night's matchup tied for second in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings, each just a half game behind co-leaders Mercer and Florida Gulf Coast. UNF got back on the winning trail with a 74-60 victory over Stetson last Saturday, while JU carries a three-game win streak following their win over FGCU on Saturday.
Freshman Dallas Moore, UNF's leading scorer at 12.4 points per game, led the way for the Ospreys against the Hatters finishing with 17 points and marking his fifth consecutive game in double digits. Moore is joined in double figures by senior Travis Wallace (11.7 ppg) and sophomore Beau Beech (10.0 ppg). Wallace tops the squad in rebounding, pulling down 7.2 boards a contest.
JU is led by the duo of Jarvis Haywood and Keith McDougald. Haywood is averaging 16.5 points per game and shooting 52 percent from the floor, while McDougald averages 12.5 ppg and is the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, following a career best 27-point performance against FGCU.
Friday's game marks the 20th all-time meeting between UNF and JU with the Dolphins holding a 15-4 advantage in the series. Three of UNF's four wins have come in the past two seasons. Jacksonville claimed both meetings a year ago including a two-point victory the last time the pair squared off. Seven of the past eight games have been decided by nine points or less including three one possession contests.
A large crowd is expected for the contest with fans planning to attend the game encouraged to arrive early to UNF Arena. Parking for the event is available in Lot 18 (large lot on north side of campus), Lot 5 (near UNF tennis courts) and the Arena parking garage.
The first 2,000 fans will receive a UNF #SWOOPLife shirt and UNF fans are asked to wear white to participate in the "WhiteOut" of UNF Arena. In addition, the UNF basketball and softball teams have joined forces to collect change at the door as part of the "Change for Change" program. All monies collected will be donated to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (http://www.friendsofjaclyn.net/)
