GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -- The North Florida women's golf team carded a final round 315 and finished eighth Tuesday in the season opening FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate at Ridgeway Country Club.
The Ospreys finished the two-day, 54-hole event with a tournament total of 956. Sophomore Tess Huber fired a round of 74 (+3) on the last day to pace the UNF squad.
Sophomore Belinda George, who competed at the event as an individual, was the top performer for UNF earning a career-best finish of tied for 21st including a personal best 230 total for 54 holes. Huber led the Osprey team lineup garnering at tie for 33rd at 237.
Mary Rodgers, another sophomore, finished tied for 36th at 239 following a final round 79, while sophomore Emelie Alpe tied for 38th (240). Freshman Lauren Coe was 45th (245) and sophomore Kelly Aylwin tied for 51st (250) to round out the UNF travel squad scoring.
Samford swept the team and individual competition. The Bulldogs claimed the team championship with a three-round tally of 889, and SU's Sydney Needham posted a 219 (+6) en route to the medalist crown. Middle Tennessee finished second at 895 followed by Lamr (908), North Texas (916), tournament host Memphis (917), Sam Houston State (923), McNeese State (947), UNF, Alabama State (982), Texas Southern (990), IUPUI (1007) and New Orleans (1021).
North Florida will have three weeks off from competition before returning to the links Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
