Annapolis, Md. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team (1-1-1) held the U.S. Naval Academy (2-1-0) scoreless for 78 minutes, but fell, 1-0, on Friday night in Annapolis, Md.
"We fought hard tonight against a very good team," head coach Linda Hamilton said. "We were very aggressive all night and had some opportunities at the goal."
The Ospreys defense allowed only one goal on the night, despite being outshot 14-4. Navy's Paloma Perez found the back of the net in the 78th minute off an assist from Kaylie Davidson.
Both teams were balanced at corner kick attempts. North Florida had seven, while Navy recorded 10.

True freshman Susie Ford recorded four saves in the match for the Ospreys, while the one goal. Navy's goalie Elizabeth Hoerner notched one save in the shutout effort.

Offensively, the Ospreys were unable to get on the scoreboard. UNF tallied four shots including one shot on goal. Senior Carolina Lencina and freshman Alexis Bredeau each recorded two shots for the Ospreys but were unable to find the back of the net. The Ospreys threatened to score when Lencina's shot on goal in the first half hit the post.Â
"The match was very close and exciting fast paced match." Hamilton said. "We competed very well with them and we proved that we can hang with some of the better teams in the nation."
