JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team is set to play its final nonconference game of the season on Tuesday night against Georgia Southern at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.
Live stats and in-game tweets (@OspreyBSB) will be available throughout the game. The game will not be broadcast on the UNF Radio Network, but the game can be heard on the Georgia Southern Radio Network and streamed online at www.gseagles.com/watch-listen.
The Ospreys and Eagles met earlier this season on April 30 in Jacksonville with North Florida claiming a 5-4 victory in 11 innings to record the 1,000th win in program history.
North Florida enters the midweek with a 36-16 overall record, including an 11-7 road mark. Georgia Southern is 25-26 this season, owning a 16-13 record at home. The Ospreys boast a 19-8 nonconference record, while the Eagles are 12-12 outside of league play.
After the April 30 victory, the Ospreys now hold an 8-7 lead in the all-time series. North Florida is 5-2 against Georgia Southern in Jacksonville, but 3-5 against the Eagles in Statesboro. The series started on Feb. 4, 2006 with a 7-2 victory by North Florida – the first Osprey win in the Division I Era. The Eagles won the next five meetings before the Ospreys posted a 14-3 win on March 2, 2010.
Last season, the two teams split a pair of games in Statesboro. North Florida claimed the first game 7-5, before dropping the finale 9-5. The Ospreys have won five of the last six games in the series and two of the last three games in Statesboro.
North Florida is currently 26-3 when scoring six or more runs this season. Also, the Ospreys are 30-6 when holding opponents to five runs or less. UNF has posted three shutouts during the 2013 season.
The Ospreys have played 28 games this season decided by three runs or less. North Florida is 15-13 in games decided by three runs or less. The Ospreys have played eight extra-inning games this season, notching a 5-3 record in those games.
Scouting the Opposition:
The Eagles need another five wins to give head coach Rodney Hennon his 16th consecutive 30+ win season. Hennon has led GSU to a winning season in his 13 previous seasons at the helm. Hennon is also two wins away from his 500th victory at Georgia Southern. He picked up his 500th career victory in 2011.
Georgia Southern fell below .500 for the third time this season after being swept at Clemson.
