Ospreys Top Blazers in Sand Volleyball Rematch

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The North Florida Sand Volleyball team topped UAB, 3-2, in Sunday's rematch at the Blazer Sand Volleyball courts.

The Ospreys (11-2) suffered a hard fought 3-2 loss Saturday to the Blazers (10-6) but turned the tables in the final match of the series between the pair. UNF's top-flighted duo of Anna Budinska/Dagnija Medina secured the win in a thrilling three-game match.

North Florida struck first getting a straight game win at the No. 4 spot from Cameron McGuire/Paige Pridgeon. UAB evened the score at 1-1 following a three-game victory at No. 5 and moved in front after claiming a win at No. 2.

The Ospreys battled back to knot the score at 2-2 behind a three-game victory at No. 3 by Emily Strack/Anna Wagner setting up the showdown at the top spot.

Budinska/Medina dropped the opening game 21-19 before rallying with a dominating 21-8 win in game two. The Osprey tandem then outlasted the Blazer pair, 15-12.

North Florida next meets crosstown rival Jacksonville for a doubleheader Wednesday in the River City Rumble and for the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title. The Ospreys (6-0) have already earned a share of the championship but would claim sole possession with one victory over the Dolphins (4-2) at their home courts.
