Ospreys Continue A-Sun Play with Conference Newcomer NKU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team continues Atlantic Sun Conference action with a three-game weekend series against conference newcomer Northern Kentucky at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys and the Norse open the series on Friday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. The series continues on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of games beginning at 1:00 p.m.
All three games will be broadcast on the radio over the weekend. The Voice of the Ospreys, Robert Harper (@UNFVoice), will have the play-by-play for each game. All three games will be aired on 92.5 FM Jax Sports Radio, while Sunday's game will also be broadcast on 1010 XL.
Live stats, live video and in-game tweets (@OspreyBSB) will be available throughout the weekend.
North Florida enters the weekend with a 24-11 overall record, while Northern Kentucky has a 6-27 mark. The Ospreys are currently tied for the A-Sun lead with a 6-3 league record. The Norse have struggled in their first year of the league, entering the weekend with a 1-9 clip in the A-Sun.
The Ospreys are 17-6 this season at Harmon Stadium. The majority of the wins for the Norse have come away from NKU's home field. Northern Kentucky enters the weekend with a 3-14 record on the road and a 1-2 mark in neutral site games. With its win on Wednesday night over Florida A&M, North Florida secured a winning season at home for the 24th time in the Ospreys' 26-year history.
UNF holds a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series with NKU, winning the only meeting between the two teams. North Florida recorded an 8-1 victory over Northern Kentucky on March 15, 1992 at Harmon Stadium.
North Florida has won the past three A-Sun Player of the Week honors, as Corey Bass, Donnie Dewees and Drew Weeks have won in consecutive weeks. It marks the first time in conference history that teammates have won the award three-straight weeks in the same season.
In the latest WarrenNolan.com RPI release, two teams from the A-Sun appeared in the top-35 – Mercer (25th) and Florida Gulf Coast (32nd). Three A-Sun squads are in the top-75 as North Florida ranks 72nd.
The A-Sun has racked up 25 wins against 2012 NCAA Tournament Participants. A-Sun teams have squared off against 19 of the 64 postseason teams and earned at least one win against 11 of them. This year's 25 wins already has passed last year's win total of 20 vs. 2011 tournament teams.
Kennesaw State pitching staff owns a 3.10 ERA, which leads the A-Sun this season and is currently tied for the second-best in conference history. North Florida is right behind the Owls at 3.11, which is fourth best all-time.
In the latest NCAA statistical release, North Florida lead the nation with 411 total hits this season, while fellow A-Sun competitor Mercer ranked sixth with 370.
