JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's tennis team will travel for its first road matches in more than a month this weekend as it travels to East Tennessee State and USC Upstate for matches on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Ospreys started Atlantic Sun Conference play with a bang in their last matches, cruising to a pair of 7-0 home victories over Kennesaw State and Mercer in the last of nine straight home matches. The wins raised UNF's record to 9-3 this season, including an 8-2 mark at home.
ETSU, who will host UNF on Friday at 1 p.m., also earned a pair of wins last weekend. The Bucs started their A-Sun season with a 6-1 win over USC Upstate before blanking Western Carolina, 7-0. Friday's match will be ETSU's first home match this season, as they are opening a new tennis complex on campus.
USC Upstate will carry an 8-4 record into Sunday's 2 p.m. match against the Ospreys. The Spartans had a four-match winning streak until they were upended by ETSU on March 16 in their first home loss. Upstate has compiled a 4-1 record at home this season.
The Ospreys have compiled a sterling record in both singles and doubles matches thus far in 2013, racking up a 52-20 (.722) singles record in dual matches and a 25-9 (.735) in doubles. Those efforts have helped UNF to win five consecutive matches.
Junior Simona Weymar has been the most consistent performer as of late, as she rides a seven-match singles winning streak into the weekend. Weymar also pairs with sophomore Rebeca Pereira at No. 2 doubles, where the duo has won a team-best six consecutive matches.
