Baseball Faces Savannah State in Pair of Midweek Games

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team is set for a pair of games against Savannah State this week. The first game is slated for Tuesday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium, while the second game will be Wednesday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Tiger Baseball Field in Savannah, Ga.
North Florida enters the week with an 11-5 overall record, while Savannah State is 11-4.
For his efforts on the week, Tyler Marincov was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week. Marincov led the team with a .421 batting average on the week and a 1.053 slugging percentage. He finished the week 8-for-19 with a double, a triple, three home runs, eight runs scored and 10 RBI. Marincov had home runs in three consecutive games on the week. He also added a sacrifice fly and a stolen base. The junior posted four multiple-hit games on the week with an extra base hit in each game. On the week, he was perfect in the field on five chances.
The Ospreys hold a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series. UNF is 3-0 against SSU at Harmon Stadium and Wednesday's game will mark the first meeting between the two teams in Savannah.
The first meeting between the two teams came on Feb. 26, 1994 with the Ospreys posting a 28-4 victory over the Tigers. The 28 runs in the game are tied for the most in school history and the 24-run margin of victory is tied for first in the UNF record book.
North Florida and Savannah State met on the diamond on April 5, 2011 with the Ospreys earning a 13-4 win. In the game, Evan Stermer (2011-12) hit a pair of home runs, while Alex Bacon added a homer. Bacon and Stermer both finished the game with two hits, three runs and four RBI apiece.
Last season, the Ospreys pounded the Tigers 18-2 on March 20. In the game, 11 different North Florida hitters recorded at least one hit with three players notching multiple hits. UNF recorded 14 hits on the night with two doubles, two triples and two home runs. Paul Karmeris led the offensive attack, finishing the game with a triple and a home run. In addition, Marincov had a team-best five RBI with a homer to his credit.
**NOTE: Because of travel arrangements, the University of North Florida baseball team's final game against Lafayette has been moved to 12:00 p.m. (Noon). Concerns over the Leopards return flight to Easton, Pa. prompted the time change for the finale of the three-game series.**
