NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 2012-13 regular season comes to an end for the University of North Florida women's basketball team on Saturday evening at Lipscomb.
Quite a bit is at stake with Saturday's game. For UNF, the outcome of Saturday's game will determine the Ospreys' seeding in the 2013 General Shale Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Championship. For Lipscomb, a berth to the tournament is on the line.
UNF currently sits seventh and tied with ETSU at 6-11 in the Atlantic Sun standings and is just one win behind USC Upstate and Jacksonville, who are both 7-10. UNF can only be seeded as high as No. 5 in the tournament and face multiple scenarios that could put them at either the No. 5, No. 6 or No. 7 seeds.
Meanwhile, Lipscomb (2-15 Atlantic Sun) is in a battle with Kennesaw State (3-14 Atlantic Sun) for the tournament's No. 8 seed. The Lady Bisons need to win on Saturday and have Kennesaw State lose in order to force a series of tiebreakers that could fall to Lipscomb's favor.
UNF attempts to end the regular season on a positive note after going 1-7 during the month of February. The Ospreys try to break a seven-game losing skid after getting their last win against Stetson on Feb. 2 at UNF Arena. UNF comes off a 57-44 setback at Northern Kentucky on Thursday night.
Destinee Smith has been key for the Ospreys on the floor, leading the team in points in three of the last four games and averaging 15.5 ppg in that span. Meanwhile, Raneisha Lamar has averaged 10.5 ppg and 12.8 rpg in the last three of four games and had two double-doubles.
Jadhken Kerr keeps getting closer to the 1,000-point plateau. She now had 995 career points and is just five away from becoming the seventh Osprey to reach that benchmark.
Lipscomb will try to break a two-game losing skid and a six-game homing losing streak on Saturday in hopes of keeping its season still alive. The Lady Bisons have not won on their home floor since defeating USC Upstate 57-56 on Jan. 7. Hannah Phillips enters Saturday's game averaging a team-best 13.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., EST/6 p.m. CST.
