JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fresh off of a pair of come from behind victories, the University of North Florida baseball team travels to Gainesville, Fla. for a midweek tilt with the University of Florida on Tuesday night at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium at Perry Field. First pitch between the Ospreys and No. 29 Gators is slated for 7:00 p.m.
North Florida enters the week with a 5-2 overall record, while Florida enters the game with a 3-5 mark. The Ospreys finished last week 3-1 with a road victory over Bethune-Cookman and a pair of wins against The Citadel. The Gators went 1-4 last week; defeating UCF, but dropped a game to Georgia Southern and were swept in a three-game series with Atlantic Sun Conference foe Florida Gulf Coast.
Florida holds a slight 6-5 edge in the all-time series. The Ospreys are undefeated in Jacksonville against the Gators, winning a pair of games at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium and two neutral site games held at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. In Gainesville, North Florida is 2-6 overall.
UNF opened the series with three consecutive victories, including a pair of wins in Gainesville. UF has gotten the better of the Ospreys in six of the next eight matchups.
Last season, the Ospreys posted a 10-5 victory over then No. 1 Gators in front of an over-capacity crowd at Harmon Stadium on April 3. The win marked the highest ranked opponent the Ospreys ever defeated. On May 8, 2012, North Florida forced extra innings with Florida, who were ranked fifth at the time, before falling 4-3 in 11 innings in Gainesville.
This season, North Florida has had a flair for the dramatic. Three of the Ospreys' five wins this season have been come from behind victories. In addition, UNF came from behind in the first game against The Citadel to force extra innings, before dropping the game in the 11th.
Scouting the Opposition:
Florida has played seven of its first eight games at home, posting a 2-5 record at home. Last season, the Gators recorded a 31-8 at McKethan Stadium.
The Gators have not announced a starting pitcher for Tuesday night, while the Ospreys will be going with RHP David Trexler.
Florida has played and lost two extra-inning games in eight total games in 2013. In 2012, the Gators played in just four extra-inning games during their entire 67-game season, posting a 3-1 record.
