
Swimming/Diving Set for Competition at CCSA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team is set to start competition at the 2013 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships this weekend beginning Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. Competition in the CCSA Championships continues through Saturday, Feb. 23.
The 2012-13 Osprey team features a solid mix of veterans and newcomers. UNF boasts 12 returners to the pool deck this season, while welcoming eight newcomers. The team is led by senior captain Katie England, all-conference swimmer Sara Evans and all-conference diver Julia Moomaw.
In addition to the three seniors, North Florida also returns Kristina Alexiou, Maria Bernard, Rebeca Bernard, Lissa Janowicz, Natalie McCallum, Monica Rice, Ellice Mae Sanchez, Morgan Whittle and Bridget Woods. The Ospreys welcome newcomers Hannah Brown, Caitlyn Gutierrez, Amanda Habig, Janie Kennedy, Olivia Langford, Krissy Morgan, Fernanda Robles and Amy Taylor to the squad.
Last season, the Ospreys finished the CCSA Championships in fourth place. During the three-day meet, North Florida posted six school records. Woods broke former swimmer and current assistant coach Monique Salles-Cunah's record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.27. The record was the longest standing swimming record for the Ospreys. In addition, Evans broke the school record in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.69), 200 individual medley (2:03.78) and 400 individual medley (4:24.69). The quartet of Christine Kemp (2011-12), Woods, M. Bernard and McCallum broke the 800 freestyle relay record with a time of 7:33.18.
Evans finished the meet with a pair of All-Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association accolades (200 IM, 400 IM), while the 800 freestyle relay team – Kemp, Woods, M. Bernard and McCallum – also earned All-CCSA honors. In addition, Moomaw earned All-Conference honors for the second time in her career on the 3-meter diving board.
For fans making the trip to Athens, Ga., three-day championship passes are $25, while two-day passes are $18. Single day passes are $10. Children under 5 years old will be admitted free. Please note that there will be no pre-ordering of tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the door the morning of Thursday, February 21; beginning at 8:00 a.m. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door throughout the remainder of the Championship.
The CCSA Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will once again be video streamed on the Big South Network.
