Swimming/Diving Closes Out Regular Season at FGCU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team concludes the regular season with a dual meet at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the FGCU Aquatic Center.
North Florida enters the final regular season meet of the year on the heels of a 142.00-101.00 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the UNF Aquatic Center. The victory gave the Ospreys a perfect 5-0 record at home this season. The meet was the final home meet for seniors Katie England, Sara Evans and Julia Moomaw, who were all honored prior to the meet.
The meet began with the 400-yard medley relay. North Florida's two relay teams finished 1-2 to start the day off on a solid note. The quartet of Ellice Mae Sanchez, Bridget Woods, Lissa Janowicz and Natalie McCallum finished in first place with a time of 4:02.52, while Kristina Alexiou, England, Krissy Morgan and Janie Kennedy were in second place with a time of 4:09.92.
In the 1,000 freestyle, freshmen Amy Taylor and Olivia Langford earned first and third, respectively. Taylor clocked a 10:34.12 to win the event, followed closely by Langford who notched a time of 10:37.80.
Maria Bernard took first place in the 200 freestyle to increase the Ospreys advantage over the Eagles. M. Bernard posted a time of 1:56.98, while twin sister Rebeca Bernard finished just off the podium with a time of 1:58.80.
In the 50 freestyle, Kennedy earned North Florida four more points with a second place victory, posting a time of 25.43. Sanchez (25.92) and Morgan (26.22) also earned points for the Ospreys in the event.
The 200 individual medley saw Evans edging out teammate Woods by three hundredths of a second. Evans clocked a 2:09.57 to out-touch Woods' 2:10.00. McCallum completed the sweep in the 200 IM, finishing third with a time of 2:11.23.
North Florida posted four of the top five finishes in the 1-meter diving competition. Moomaw, who earned CCSA Diver of the Week honors for her efforts against Georgia Southern, won the event with a score of 237.37. Monica Rice (231.97), Morgan Whittle (223.20) and Amanda Habig (220.94) finished in order for Ospreys.
Janowicz and Taylor took the top two spots in the 200 butterfly. Janowicz won the event with a time of 2:08.64, while Taylor earned silver with a time of 2:08.92.
In the 100 freestyle, the Ospreys claimed three of the top four spots. R. Bernard out-touched sister M. Bernard to earn second place accolades. R. Bernard timed in at 54.48, while M. Bernard posted a 54.63. Kennedy rounded out the scoring for UNF in the event with a time of 55.21.
The 200 backstroke saw Sanchez and Alexiou finishing back-to-back. Sanchez earned bronze with a 2:11.12, while Alexiou earned points for the Ospreys with a time of 2:12.29 in the event.
In the final distance event of the day, Langford notched a 5:10.11 to earn third place accolades, while Taylor secured crucial points with a time of 5:18.55.
The 3-meter diving saw UNF earn five of the top seven spots. Moomaw, Rice and Whittle finished back-to-back-to-back for the Ospreys. Moomaw's 260.62 were good enough for second place, while Rice earned third with 249.00 points. Whittle was just off the podium with a score of 248.40. Habig (231.07) and Fernanda Robles (230.25) rounded out the scoring for the Ospreys.
Woods and Evans once again finished back-to-back in 200 breaststroke. Woods won the event with a 2:23.89, while Evans took second place with a 2:25.11.
