JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- With the completion of their non-conference schedule, the North Florida basketball team opens up Atlantic Sun Conference play against Kennesaw State in UNF Arena on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Ospreys (6-7) will be closing out the 2013 calendar looking to post a fifth consecutive home victory. In their last outing before Christmas, UNF bested Bethune-Cookman, 68-64, to secure the sixth non-conference victory of the year which matched the program's Division I era best.
Heading into league play, North Florida is led in scoring by freshman Dallas Moore at 11.2 points per game. Senior Travis Wallace is also averaging in double digits at 10.6 ppg and tops the team in rebounding at 6.9 boards a contest. The Ospreys are averaging four points more per game this season over last year and have already seen all 11 players on the roster record a double-figure scoring performance.
The Owls come into Monday's tilt with a 3-10 record and have dropped their last five contests including a 90-66 loss at Indiana in their last outing. The UNF game marks KSU's sixth consecutive road game. Kennesaw State is led in scoring and rebounding by Orlando Coleman, averaging 10.9 points and 7.0 rebounds a game.
The UNF-KSU rivalry is the most contested series in Osprey record books with Monday's game marking the 33rd all-time meeting. The two squads are tied 16-16 in the series but North Florida has claimed the last eight meetings between the pair. UNF is also 9-7 versus the Owls at UNF Arena.
UNF's will be opening its A-Sun slate at home for the fourth consecutive season. The Ospreys have won their last three league debuts and have also reached the 80-point mark in each of those contests including an 84-70 win over Lipscomb last season on New Year's Eve.
